This project has been supported by funding from the Australian Government under the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government – previously known as the Department of Transport and Regional Services.

In late 2006 the Australian Government, under the Department of Transport and Regional Services, announced its support of the process through a funding grant that is assisting in the strategic planning and consolidation of the operation. Outback Calling Ltd is extremely appreciative of this support.

Rural Press Ltd was named the “Official Year of the Outback 2006 Print Media Partner” in February 2006. In making the announcement, the Chairman of the then Australian Outback Development Consortium Ltd, and now Chairman of the newly formed, Outback Calling Ltd, Bruce Campbell - expressed delight at the

arrangement and the close working relationship with his organisation, which is committed to fostering a clear Australia-wide understanding and appreciation of the vital importance of Australia’s heartland, its people and its industries.

Mr Campbell said at the time of the arrangement being struck that Rural Press is a very significant and expanding media network with an unparalleled capacity to spread the positive Year of the Outback messages across the country.

Outback Calling Ltd is looking forward to continuing the partnership with Rural Press Ltd that was initiated with the Australian Outback Development Consortium, in the certain knowledge that the relationship will continue to add further invaluable dimensions to the facilitiation of the Outback Calling process and ensure its impacts and outcomes are maximised to the benefit of Australia and its people.

In 2006, Grant Cochrane, the General Manager, Agricultural Publishing, Rural Press Ltd, said his organisation shared Bruce Campbell’s optimism at the widespread benefits to flow from the Partnership Agreement.

“We were most impressed with the way in which Australians of all ages responded to the Year of the Outback 2002 and in doing so generated benefits far beyond anything that might have been contemplated.”

“We had already determined to support the Year of the Outback 2006 and indeed were very pleased to publish the Year’s “Official Guide” which was distributed throughout Australia with all Rural Press Agricultural weekly papers," Mr Cochrane said.

In 2008, Mr Cochrane and Rural Press continue to support the process which is now being facilitated by Outback Calling Ltd.
